Preventive Care

Bi-annual Cleanings, Examinations and X-Rays

Even if you routinely brush your teeth and floss daily, a thin film of plaque can still accumulate on your teeth and gums over time. If left untreated, plaque can lead to cavities and gingivitis. That’s why the American Dental Association recommends that you have your teeth cleaned and examined by a qualified dental professional every six months.  Also, regular visits are the most important method to decrease your dental health costs over time, since we are able to prevent more costly procedures before they happen.

At Mora Family Dentistry, our expertly trained staff will carefully clean, polish and examine your teeth looking for any evidence of decay, wear from grinding or other potential disorders. We also recommend you have X-rays taken periodically to give us a clearer picture of what’s going on inside your mouth. X-rays enable us to detect any decay that may be developing between your teeth as well as possible signs of tumors, cysts and bone loss. Our digital radiography equipment uses 50-70% less radiation than conventional X-rays and allows us to computer-enhance the images for better diagnosis of dental concerns.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are used to fill in narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In some cases, the tooth structure has fine grooves or pits that may accumulate plaque—not because the person doesn't brush—but because they're too small for the bristles of a toothbrush to be effective. These fine grooves or pits may lead to plaque build-up. To prevent this, our dentists can brush on a coating that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy.
